Charles Finney was one of the greatest American preachers in the 1800s and president of Ohio's Oberlin College. He strongly supported giving freedom to the slaves, so the college was a busy station for the Underground Railroad, secretly guiding slaves to freedom.
Oberlin was among the first American colleges to educate blacks and women alongside white men. Finney also helped form a network of volunteer societies to address social problems. By 1834, their combined budget was nearly as large as the federal budget of that time.
During Boston revivals, fifty thousand people put their faith in Christ in a single week. Finney always demanded an answer to this question: "What will you do with Jesus Christ?"
"Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass" (Psalm 37:5).
